LOSING WEIGHT

2008-09-30 22:32:01

YOU KNOW I HAVE BEEN READING DIFFERENT POST OVER THE PAST WEEK.
LOOKING AT WHAT DIFFEREDNT PEOPLES FAMILY AND FRIENDS FEEL ABOUT THE
WLS. YOU KNOW THINKING THAT WE ARE JUST GOING TO START RUNNING WILD
AND STUFF LIKE THAT. NOW I REALIZE THA IT HAS BEEN AWHILE SINCE I
HAVE BEEN THIN OR ATLEAST ALOT SMALLER THAN I AM RIGHT NOW BUT WHY I
DON'T THINK THAT ALL THIN PEOPLE RUN AROULD ACTING WILD AND FLIRTING
WITH EVERYONE. I AM SAYING THIS BECAUSE ME AND MY HUSBAND WAS HAVING
A DISCUSSION THE OTHER NIGHT ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE IS NOT A JEALOUS
PERSON. IF I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS GOING TO A FRIENDS HOUSE TO VIST AND
DID NOT COME HOME UNTIL 2 OR 3 IN THE MORNING HE WOULD NOT HAVE A
PROBLEM WITH THAT NOW ME ON THE OTHER HAND I WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM IF
HE DID THAT. I AM NOT AN OVERLY JEALOUS PERSON HOWEVER I DO THINK
THAT IS DISRESPECFUL. ANYWAY HE JUST HAS THIS NOTHING REALLY BOTHERS
ME ATTITUDE AND I TOLD HIM THAT EVERY PERSON HAS A JEALOUS PART OF
THEM ITS JUST A MATTER OF HOW THEY REACT TO THE SITUATION SOME PEOPLE
BECOME STALKERS AND OBESSIVE AND OTHERS JUST SPEAK THEIR MIND.(I
SPEAK MY MIND)THEN THIS SWEET MAN THAT I HAVE BEEN MARRIED TO FOR 5
YEARS SAYS TOME WELL WHEN YOU LOSE THIS WEIGHT I AM NOT GOING TO BE
ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH YOU YOU WILL NEVER BE AT HOME. SO I'M LIKE DO
YOU THINK THAT THE ONLY REASON I AM AT HOME A LOT IS BECAUSE OF MY
WEIGHT AND THAT NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN ME BECAUSE I AM FAT (I SAY
I'M FAT HE SAYS FULL FIGURED. AND I STIL DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE
DIFFEENCE BETWEENT THOSE 2 ARE)SORRY THIS IS SO LONG BUT WHY DO ME
TEND TO THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE OVER WEIGHT NO ONE WANTS YOU.
MOW MY HUSBAND DID NOT COME OUT AND SAY IT BUT I KNOW THAT IS WHAT HE
MENT IN SO MANY WORDS.

Chrissy,
I just wanted to say thanks for the insurance info and I have also had some
negative reactions from a family member and a friend. I really think it is
jealousy. I don't think they are thinking period. They don't understand that in
most cases this is a last resort. I have already started getting the cold
shoulder and haven't had the surgery. Wait till the weight starts coming

Wolfie,
boy you said it. Yes I was disappointed that the sister-in-law I expected to
support me hasn't. I figure the phone lines run both ways. I have made several
attempts with little or no response. I'm not wasting anymore of my energy on
being upset with her. Instead I concentrate on more positive things in my

Yeah, I've had that thought many days in a row my self. My husband is
very supportive and reminds me not to put up with too much crap. The
few times anyone has been dumb enough to make a "cop out" statement

think then what is best for you. If you are a minor Mom has the say. If you are
an adult step up to the plate and take charge of your life and do what you

Tanya,
I never had chest pains either. Just pain in my right side right
between my hip bone and my ribs. started off like a dull pain then
got progressively stronger over a period of 30 min to the point to
where i vomited(pain so bad) and all i could do was lay down for the
rest of the day. I also had countless ultrasounds and tests and
nothing ever showed up. Ask your Dr about a Hydoscan. If your tests
come back ok and you are still having pains.

Low Carb Ice Cream

2008-09-28 03:22:38

Wolfie,
I have not heard of the Breyers low carb ice cream, but there is a
brand called "Le Carb" that I buy at Super Walmart. It comes in the
small pint containers and the flavors are Cinamon, Chocolate, Lemon
something, and I think there are more. They have 2-3 net carbs per
serving (1/4 cup). I have only tried the cinamon one, and it tastes
great. Kind of very silky and the taste is more like cinamon custard.
Have only seen it at Super Walmart. You might want to give these a
try for those days where you need something sweet. Usually one or
two teaspoons satisfies me, and it will sit in the freezer for 2/3
weeks until my husband or kids find it.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] 3 weeks post-op

2008-09-27 20:36:57

Well you got into the group OK. Welcome!
When I was on pureed, I would cook chicken in alfredo sauce untill it was very
tender, fed my family the whole pieces and took mine and threw it in the blender
with some of the alfredo sauce until it was semi-soupy. Of course one piece of
chicken can last for a few meals. :) I also used beef gravy to thin out beef in
the blender.
As for the shakes, I could not stomach the SF carnation instant breakfast with
protien powder that the nutritionist at the hospital suggested. :P I
experimented with powders and ready made canned shakes and found one I really
liked, and showed it to my DR who approved of it. I'm still a choc-0-holic of
sorts (LOL) so I chose these by EAS.
http://register.eas.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=3318&section=10022
They also make a shake called RESULTS for women, it's only 8 oz. and at 3 months
post op, I can drink a whole one for breakfast and I try to have another in the
afternoon. :)
Hope this helps.

say anything about it she says stuff like "your just going to end up
dead" or she says "you will be a vegatable after this surgery".and if
she wants to try to be funny she ask how and who will whip your butt
when you poop. then she laughs and walks away.I have a date with the

Yes it is on the right side but you can have pain all over. It can even feel
like a heart attack at time. I know with me my first symptoms were chest pain,
that moved into shortness of breath then the most horrible stabbing pain that
brought forth screaming. It was horrible. Thank goodness now I only have to
watch what I eat since I don't have the gallbladder to filter out the fats and
all. If I slip and eat something that has to much fat I get very very sick.

saw garlic laughing cow, but I know I would like it.
I like warm egg salad for some reason. I hard boil my egg(s), peel,

Kris-
A 7 is pretty close to an 8, and a 9 is pretty close to a 10. The 8 and 10
are on the same continum with the 26 or 28. To get from a 26 to an 8, I guess
you would go down 9 sizes. The odd numbers are "junior" sizes. I don't
think the sizes are much different from the next even number, they may be cut a
little shorter in the waist. As far as I know, the main difference is that
junior sizes usually have the trendiest youngest looking clothes. -- Jody

womenās clothes come in? Iāve heard friends talk about

I went to the ER on many occasions and had numerous ultrasounds and
lab work and they never found athing....just sent me home on pain
meds. I went to a surgeon who done a Hydoscan(which is when they do

My gallbladder was scared(which is when it swells your intestinse

PLease dont wait...even if you do have to go to the ER....
But this can be very serious if there is infection or stones...or

Pain on the left side

2008-09-22 16:20:03

Hello Everyone....
I have a question. Sunday evening my left side started hurting
really badly and it hasn't quit since. At first it was like a cramp,
it came then subsided for a while, then came back. I went to bed and
woke up Monday and was feeling fine. Then when I was walking into a
store around 11 am, it started again and would not go away. It felt
like a stitch in my side at first then it felt like I was being
stabbed with a knife. At that point it was still coming and going
every so often but never fully subsiding to the point where I didn't
feel it. Last night while I was in class, I almost passed out
because it hurt so bad. I couldn't stand up, couldn't sit up
straight and definitely couldn't walk! Today has been pretty much
the same thing. I woke up this a.m. feeling fine, went to class for
4 hours and didn't have a problem but when I got up out of my chair
to leave, I was hit with this wave of pain and had to sit back down
for five minutes to recover. Ever since then I've been in almost
constant pain. It's located on my left side right underneat my
ribcage. Not all the way on my side but sort of diagonally down from
my breast. Any ideas? I already talked to my surgeon's office and
they seem to think it might be my gall bladder....what do you all
think?

Every doctor and nutritionist seems to give a little different
advice to their patients as far as diet and then every body is
different about what it can and cannot tolerate. Have you checked
back with your doctor or nutrionist? It seems like they should have
given you a list of okay foods to gradually work in.

3 weeks post-op and really feeling icky...I am not sure what I should
be eating, can't manage to choke down the Pro-complex, drinking lots
of water, but scared to try new things. Someone told me to try Taco
Bell Pintos & Cheese(no sauce)...I am supposed to be able to have
full liquids and pureed foods at this point. My dietary guidelines
say anything I can blend up...but I usually just stick to broth or
cream of chicken soup...need help, any suggestions.

Re: how long on clear liquids??

2008-09-21 02:06:20

I only had to be on liquids and s/f jello for a week after my
surgery. Then, my doctor had me go directly to regular food (lean
meat and leafy vegetables only though.) I've done fine. I have never
been sick, not once. My surgery was Sept. 24.

i understand what you are talking about. when my information was first sent in i
was denied almost immediatly, so i appealed sne this time it took them a little
longer but i was denied again, so i appealed again and was denied again but this
time they told me that if i did not agree with their decision i could file a
grievence, i figured what did i have to lose even though i was on the verge of
giving up so i decided to file the grievence and they contacted me and said that
i could be a part of this icould either come to their office which was about an
hours drive away or i could do a conference call and be in on the process i
decided to do the phone conference it lasted aout 15 mins and they thanked me
and said that i would hear from them in about a week. exactly 6 days from that
day received a letter from my ins company and i just knew that it was another
denial letter but you could have knocked me over with a feather when i saw the
approval number. i read that letter about 20 times that night because i could
not beleive it. so what i am saying do not give up. stay on top of it also stay
prayed up., i prayed and asked GOD if this was his will forme then i would be
approved. prayer does work. sorry this message is so long.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Questions

2008-09-19 13:12:28

hi, i had surgery sept 22 nd and i'm only down 11 lbs - i get a smoothie
from smoothie king called the gladiator and it has 50 grams of protein so i
cover my whole day just with that and if i get extra in food -great - if not
i'm OK --- i'm having more trouble with the water - i hate water but i know
i need it -- i barely eat and this early on i don't get that full feeling -
i'm doing good with baked potatoes but this morning i tried a scrambled egg
and had the worst chest pain as it went down so i only ate half and i had a
yogurt and just water - i'll probably have cream soup or baked potatoe for
lunch and same for dinner.

Every Dr is different. I was only on Clear liquids for a day in the hospital
after the N/G tube came out. They were serving me cream soups, shakes and
coffee on my 3rd post op day. I was send home on full liquids and advanced to
pureed after two weeks.

few months.
Any, welcome to all the new members and congratulations to all of the
new post-op. Hope everyone is well.
An update on me, I'm feeling great, still no complication. I'm down
to about 180 and hope to loose another 25-30 lbs before I'm at goal.
I am grateful for this surgery as I never even thought I would get to
this size.
Currently, i'm about a size 12, but still feel like a size 16. I'm
hoping to get to a size 6/8 and be done. I'm also trying to make
exercise a part of my life. I haven't made it habbit just yet, but I
do go about 2x per week. I'm working on doubeling that.
I hope to be around more often now as OE is winding down. I want te

2008-09-18 03:41:48

I too had problems in the beginning. As a matter of fact they kept me in the
hospital an extra day because of the intense gas pain I was suffering
through. It was awful! They finally gave me a suppository to kind of jump
start my system and after that I was ok. I went home and it was days before
I had a movement. And let me tell you it was nothing nice! Pain doesn't
begin to describe it! Now I am about 7 and a half weeks out.... 51 lbs
lighter... and crapping like a demon!!! It will be ok! Trust me!

Hi Kerri,
I haven't had surgery yet. I'm hoping for a December date. I quit smoking on
April fools day this year. Cold turkey after smoking off and on for 26 years( I
was a cool 13 year old smoker =( It will soon be 7 months and I still have
occasional cravings. Sometimes I dream about smoking. There I times I really do
miss it. I think I had finally had enough of coughing all night. Waking up in
the morning and not being able to function until I had my cup of jo and a smoke.
It's not easy at all! I compare it to being an alcoholic. I'm a smoke
aholic...some days will be more harder than others to stay on the wagon...for
the rest of our lives. Good luck to you, Constance

how many of you stopped smoking before your surgery??? I have had mine and now I

Show on TV and misc

2008-09-17 16:12:02

For those of you who get The Discovery Channel, tune in to
a show called Second Opinion with Dr. Mahmet Oz. I TIVOd
the show yesterday and it was about obesity and it followed
one woman through GBS and showed her surgery as well on
screen. She had the lap. She started at 240 and is down
to 170 now. She wants to get to 120 so I think shes
rather short. Dr. Oz even has a real stomach that he
exemplifies (kind of) the surgery on in front of the
audience. Very informative. See if you can catch a
re-run. Im sure Discovery Channel has a website where you
can look up re-runs in your area.
Part of my preparation for the surgery is TIVOing anything
on obesity. When I think about canceling and chickening
out of the surgery, I just watch one of those shows and
hear the stats on mortality and quality of life for the
morbidly obese and remember why Im doing this again.
Ive also started a high-protein diet to prepare me for the
post-surgery diet. Its going well. And Ive stopped
drinking (a lot) with my meals. Dairy has been bugging my
gall bladder so Ive tried to avoid it. I may as well
start calcium supplements now since I get hardly any dairy
anymore. I already do daily vitamins. Im surprised at
how easy it was for me to give up cheese when I know how
much it will bother me if I eat it. I hope its this easy
to give up sweets b/c thats my big downfall. But maybe
knowing that Ill start dumping will make the decision a
lot easier.
My old personal trainer also has a client who had the
surgery a few months ago and she invited me to join their
training session after work today so I can talk to her
about it. That will be enlightening, Im looking forward
to it.
Wish me luck, I hope I dont have a coronary in the middle
of the session!! I just started back to the gym last week
and Im not where I used to be yet. :-)

Hi Newbie, i too am a Newbie and i am just 3 weeks away from being a loser
myself, and i have the same prob with friends not wanting me to become thin,
because they say i wont be the same person any more, i just cant understand
that.
It wont change the person inside, the core of who i am. It will just make
me feel 1000% better with the way i look and feel. I am 27 yrs old and 5 11
and weigh 330 pounds. I dont look like it, but man i do. Im excited and scared
all in one. I know this is the right thing for me, but i also know old
habits are hard to break, i cant come home and eat a piece of candy bar and
make
things better. Its a new life style and im kinda scared but so ready, i dont
want food controling my life anymore. I havre three young kids all under the
age of 9 and i want to be able to run and play with them, and right now i just
cant, i dont have the energy. Im sure you all know that feeling. I hope it
gets better once i get some of the weight off and i can do the things i really
want to do. Thanks for hearing me...Amanda in ks

Marla,
Hi yes its tough, cause so many people dod not know what we are going through.
sometimes its really tough but maybe taking your friends one at a time and
explaining the discomforts of dumping, and the parts that are really tough. And
although its tough explaining to your friend that some comments hurt. if they
love u they will avoid saying hurtful things. It is really nice to have support
and one of my favorite places to chat, ask as question, look at before and after
pics is obesityhelp.com . I have never went to their chat site and found it
empty. And i love the question and answer section.

Hi All,
I'm new to this. I was hoping to chat for a bit, but found no one in
the chatroom. Is there anywhere else to go to chat? I had my surgery
Feb. 12th 2003, my start weight was 360lbs and I'm now 243lbs. My
pre-op size was a 28, seriously pushing a 30, currently I wear a
14/16 top and a 16/18 bottom.
Overall I'm extremely happy with the results. However I find it most
difficult to convey my feelings to my friends/family/husband about
things I might go through some days, such as dumping or just feeling
really fatigued. I go to the gym five days a week for an hour and a
half at a time with some girlfriends. The biggest problem (which in
the big scheme of things isn't that major) are the comments my
friends have begun to make. I get a lot of " well, if you'd stop
losing so much weight already" or "it must be nice to throw up
things you can't handle or just have your body decide what it
doesn't want to deal with the other direction" as well as the all
time worst "she'll change and forget who she was and who her friends
are". This upsets me, more
than I can convey to my husband or friends. They don't know how
horrible you feel when you've eaten something that your body decides
to reject (for me, my worst episode was from drinking a 4 oz. cup of
general mills international coffee-flavor-italian cappucino over a
two hour time span).
I don't know if any of you feel this way, but I'm beginning to feel
like a total alien with regards to my friends. My husband has a deep
understanding of what is going on with me, but again, he doesn't
actually "feel" my pain. I think it's my mind's way of telling me I
need to reach out and get some support from people that are walking
in the same shoes. Sooooooo, if you feel inclined to email me or
just let me know what time you guys chat and what not, that would be
great. Look forward to hearing from someone.

Re: Is Insurance such a nightmare?

2008-09-14 07:46:48

hi jayne, it all depends. what does of contract does your employer
have with the ins comp? a couple of years ago when i checked the
obesityhelp insurer section, there were mixed reviews. my PCP told me
it would take a year to get approval, but in fact it took 10 calendar
days, even with a policy EXCLUSION for any treatment for obesity. you
have to be 1000000% tenacious, i kept a little notebook with all the
doc's phones, faxes, contact persons, plus of course the hospital's &
insurance comp info. each surgeon will have his/her list of
requirements, plus it also has to do w/ any medical conditions you may
have(or not). for ex., i haven't had a gallbladder for 10 years, so i
didn't need an ultrasound.
hang in there, continue to get informed & go for it!
oh & welcome aboard!!

I am relatively new also and can tell you that you are in the right
place. The men and women in this chat are great at responding and
can identify real well to the feelings and things you are going
through...I have found that since most of the "losers" in this chat
room are from the Eastern part of the country, it's much later there
for them of course -so if I were you I would anticipate a reply in
the morning for sure...I'm still home recuperating so I haven't
gotten a lot of feedback yet from the outside world, plus I've only
lost 37 lbs. But YA KNOW I would feel hurt also...Your friends have
known you as heavy for so long that maybe they are either a) dealing
with their inadequencies (i.e., jealous or envious) or b) think you
are going to change in a way that will alienate you from them...my
good friends and family have been super supportive...maybe this is a
way for you to find out who your "True Friends" are?

Dear Marla,
Your friends? If they were truly your friends they would be supporting
you alot better. There is no excuse for the rudeness. Maybe it is their "true
colors" coming out. If so, then maybe its time you found some new friends. You
are absolutely right. Everyone seems to think this is such an easy way out
when in reality it is the hardest decision we make regarding our health. No one
but another WLS person can ever understand the true emotional/sick times that
we go through. A good support person such as my fiancee is wonderful! He
understands being an RN that I go through these things and he is right there
making
sure if there is anything he can do, if I need anything, etc. But these so
called "friends" to me sound very much like they are a "WHOLE LOT ENVIOUS" If
they only knew huh? This is something we have to do and be for the rest of our
lives. But ya know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. You keep on doing
like your doing and if they can't deal with it then it is their own
shortcomings.
Not yours. God Bless and Skinny Wishes Girl. If you ever just want to talk
you send me an email and I will go into chat with you. I love to chat and I get
upset when I go into the rooms and no one is ever there. Just leave me an
email and I will let you know if it is a good time for me. I know that

I have been lucky. I told my mother and she was very discouring and then she
talked with a few people that know someone that have had it and she asked a lot
of questions of course but now is backing me up all the way. I told my husband
I didn't want to tell my stepkids but when we went last week to visit my stepson
I decided to break down and tell him, and wow. He was so incouringing. He even
offered to send his wife down to help me after I get out of the hospital. I
think I'll turn that down 1 4yr old and a 9 mo old I think will be to much. I

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Is Insurance such a nightmare?

2008-09-12 00:32:42

It's not so much a nightmare as a big hassle. You have to have all your
ducks in a row before you even start if you want it to take a minimal amount
of time. I could have been approved in 2 weeks if I had gotten a psych
consult BEFORE my consult. As it stands now, I have been waiting since May
to get an appointment with a shrink, I had one, he was worthless and didn't
even listen to me, so now I have to see another one. I go Nov. 8. With any
luck, that will be the end of it and I can have surgery before Christmas. I
have heard people say that they waited over 18 months from consult to
surgery, because of all the hoops they have to jump through. Not all
insurances require all the testing, but it would probably be a good idea to
get a cardiac evaluation and a psychiatric evaluation done before your
consult to head off some of the hassle. Also, you could call your insurance
company and ask them what kind of testing you will need for them to approve
you. That should give you a better idea, and also give you time to get it
done before your consult, thereby making your overall wait a little less too
Good luck and keep us posted on how everything goes.

Is Insurance such a nightmare?

2008-09-10 09:54:20

Hi All. I'm new to the group and I've been reading the posts for
the last week or so. I have a surgical consultation scheduled for
mid December. They've sent me a letter saying all the information I
need to gather. I am getting letters from my primary, ob/gyn,
nutrionists, cardiologist and a therapist that I saw for years about
my weight. I have severe arthritis, severe hypertension,
depression, and possibly asthma. I have pretty good insurance -
Aetna Open Access. Every time I read a post that someone was
denied, I get really stressed. Is it really such a nightmare to get
approval?
I could really use some advice.

Regrets - Lori Anne

2008-09-07 16:19:59

Lori Anne, I hate to just pop in on you like this, but I really felt
for you reading your post. May I ask, that you just push through
right now and work with this surgery? If you are not going to your
in-person support groups, please do so. Hearing that you didn't have
health problems pre-op, do develop them now by not taking your
vitamins etc. I can't say that I ever felt as bad as you about the
surgery, but I too used to have food as part of my "celebrations and
good times". And although I never had any "regrets", all of my
mourning for food dissapeared when I slipped into a size 12 for the
first time in my adult life.
Just remember why you had this surgery and hope/believe that one day,
you will be glad, that you now eat small, healthy portions of food,
instead of hugh portions, that only get you back where you were.

Hello family.
I know it's been a really long time since I've posted, but I work in
employee benefits so open enrollment has consumed me over the past
I want te
be able to give back the the group all that I got out of it when I
was pre-op and early post-op. Hope everyone is well and always feel
free to e:mail me at msmarinajb@...

Dear Kerri,
Welcome home. Everything you're feeling will pass. Have patience with the
process. As for the bowel movement, it took my friend (she had surgery 2
weeks ago) 12 days to go. She kept ignoring my suggestions. So, I suggest
to you two things: colace (stool softener) and milk of magnesia (look for
the french vanilla flavor). Both are safe for you to take and should move
things along (pun intended).
Good luck kiddo.

Today is Diana's (imptress) and my 4 month celebration...

2008-09-05 08:56:12

Of our re-birthdays. Wish Diana a happy re-birthday today. She is
doing a great job and I'm proud of my surgery twin. As for me....
I promised myself that I would never get a scale; however, my uncle
(bless his dear sweet heart) bought one for me as a gift a few weeks
ago. So another promise was made, I would NOT become addicted to
seeing what the scale had to say..I would not weigh myself three
times a day. I knew I was loosing the weight so it didn't matter to
me what the numbers were. I did weigh myself two weeks ago when I
got the scale and was pleased with the results. Well....this morning
my dh said, "Honey, since it has been exactly 4 months ago today,
why don't you weigh yourself and see how you've progressed." and was
kind enough (notice I'm using sarcasam here) to get the scale out
for me and stand there while I tried (in vain) to think of some
excuse as to why I didn't want to do this. In the end I got up on
the scale and.....I was in absolute shock. The numbers read 328.
WHAT!! Three hundred twenty-eight. It's been a least three years
since I've weighed that much...and it means that I can now claim to
be a memeber of the century club. I started at 432 so that makes the
official loss(according to my scale) 104 lbs. Just thought I would
share.
I hope everyone else is doing well with whatever journey they are
on. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being a part of
this group. I think every single one of you are very special
people....

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] What Have I done !!!!

2008-09-03 13:25:59

Kerri,
Everyone feels that "What have I done" feeling. It's absolutely normal.
I felt that way for about 3 weeks afterwards. The feeling will pass
believe me. Especially once you start seeing the weight fall off.
I'm surprised the hospital staff let you leave without having a bm.
Well, I can't really say that because I left without having one but at
the same time...I fibbed a little about it. It was about 2-3 days after
I got home that I had one and it hurt like a witch. Best advice that I
have is to take something like Milk of Magnesia (tastes gross but
works!) or Metamucil or something. They will help move things along
(pardon the pun).
Hope this helps!!!

Your post really hit home. I am so very sorry, and I know how sharp
your pain must be right now. I got my first denial the other day. And
although I am in the process of appealing, it was my wake up call
that I have put a lot of eggs into a basket that may never hatch. It
has been a long time since I have felt a disappointment that sharply.
Please do not give up. And most of all stick around with us! There
are new developments everyday in this war. For instance, I've heard
that the Assoc. of Bariatric Surgeons are meeting in the spring and
they're going to call for a loosening of standards as to how
decisions are made about who gets this surgery. I think we're in a
period of backlash right now. The demand is up and the insurance
companies are fighting against the upfront costs of treating obesity.
All that may change in the next couple of years, as the government
and the public puts pressure on them.
Keep your chin up, and keep on fighting the good fight!

Denied!!

2008-09-01 22:19:32

It is unbelievable to me that people who do not know us, will never meet us or
our families get to make these life or death decisions for us. They get to
decide if we can have the surgery that would save our lives.
I have been denied by Humana again and according to the woman I spoke with I
have no more appeals. Which is not what my benefits book says. I can only now
contact the Missouri Insurance Dept. I don't think that will make any difference
but I plan to send them a note explaining the situation.
I do not have to option of paying for the surgery myself. I do not have anyone
that could help me with it. Which means I will not be having the surgery. I am
not sure what I will do now. I am going to have to try to diet and lose some of
this weight.
I just wanted to let everyone know what has been going on. I haven't been online
for a bit, I have been very bummed about being denied again.
Thanks for your support.
