yeh, me too except i'm not keeping track of it - i had a baby 8 months ago
and tubes cut at that time and had 1-2 cycles after all that then the WLS
and looked like i was starting my P right when i got home but the timing
would have been wrong so i called them and they said its normal but it was
in no way a normal P -- here is my theory - in my packet they said with your
first BM you may pass old dark blood that got into the system - well i didn
t - normal BM so i figured it was coming out the front b/c it was dark and
in no way resembled my P -- now i broke out earlier this week like i always
do b4 my P but nothing yet so i'll have to see what happens.

I don't think we should feel like we are going to be reprimanded for showing
both sides of the story. Yes this surgery is life saving but it also can have
it's risks.Sometimes I feel like the wls world does not want to hear what
actually can happen to some people. I mean I had surgery three weeks ago
and yes I 'am happy I did it, but I know what can happen to me if I don't do
what is expected. I feel that as adults we should be able to express ourselves
and not feel like the wls world will jump all over us.
It seems to depend on your doctor if you have to grind them up or not. I
have been taking my pulls whole since they day after surgery.
Candi
I want to thank all of you for your kind words, advice and support.
It really did help! I will write letters to my loved ones, I think
it'll help. Please keep us in your prayers.

I just have to complain to somebody..............I am on Optifast as you all
know. Well, I saw the dr (well, p.a.) Monday and she said that my liver
enzymes were up. That they had almost doubled in the 4 weeks since I started
going
there. So........she told me that instead of the 64 oz of water a day that I
had been doing like a good girl, now I have to have between 80-95oz a day!! I
am doing it but OMG , I have to pee every 10 min!!!!!! So has anyone else ever
had liver enzyme problems? Just thought I would ask.

Katie,
They did drop the ball! They should fix what they have done themselves.
Like I said before. They have no idea how much they put us out with a time

I will second that. The one thing that scares me sometimes about answering
people's questions on this list is that someone might take our advice as
gospel when they are having a problem and not consult their doctor. The
support is great for guidelines and sharing but if anyone is having a real
problem call your doctor.
I hope it doesn't offend anyone that I said that. My reason for bringing it
up is because when I was 10 days out of surgery I ended up back in the
hospital as I have mentioned before. I almost didn't call the doctor
because I was embarrassed that sooo many people seemed to be doing so well.
I really felt that I was just a big complainer. Thankfully I did break down
and call the doctor and they were able to get me back on track.
Candi
I was just wondering if anyone knew if Star had the surgery or not. I was
watching the show this morning and she has been losing weight. Barbara made a
comment on how good she is looking but nothing was said about gastric bypass or
how she has been losing the weight and of course Joy has been doing Jenny
Craig. I'm just curious I know at one time she said she would never have it but
then again she made a comment about possibly having it. If she does have it she
would look so awesome that's for sure, she is very beautiful.
Just gabbing here, thanks for listening?

Shala,
Protein is the big factor here. Push it hard. There is a product you can
buy at your hair salon called "NIOXIN". I bought it and have been using it

I have been lucky Wolfie. I have not been sick yet. I am not sure if I
have dumped or not. I had one weird experience where after I ate a piece of
melon (about 20 mins later) my stomach hurt and I had to run to the bathroom
with diarrhea. About two mins after that I was so dizzy I had to have my
hubby get me a cold washcloth to put on my forehead and I had to lie down.
But I was better in like 10 mins. So I am not sure if that was dumping or
not.
Candi
I found out today that I was denied because of 2 reasons...1. Pre-
exsiting condition, which I can fix b/c my coverage has been
continuous since 1999.
2. No proof of medical necessity, which I'm required to show b/c my
bmi is 38. I gave my surgeon a supporting letter from my pcp which
says this would be medically necessary and 8 years worth of records
from my gynie, which document my comorbidities and dieting history.
But the surgeon's staff told me today that it's not standard
operating procedure to include this documentation on the first
requuest and all they normally submit is the surgeon's notes from the
consult.
So now I have to start the appeal process, which I'm pretty resentful
of having to do b/c I feel like the surgeon's office dropped the ball.

Dawn, Diet soda or regular soda doesnt matter. When you think of it think of
it as pure poison. The carbonation is horrible for the pouch. Your
nutritionist should have mentioned all the horrors of drinking it after wls. My
psychologist told me he himself knew of quite a few people that died from
continually
drinking it. Just forget you ever heard of it. I know some people will say,
Well I drink it and I am fine. But they are seeing the long term affect down the

This is a quote from Tucker Carlson on the CNN program Crossfire.
His implication is that Gastric Bypass is for lazy people who don't
want to diet. I invite you to join me in filling his inbox.
Try this link to get an email to him
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/crossfire/index.html. There is a
section on the left for emails.
This was Tucker's quote.
CARLSON: OK, well, it's a lovely state with great food, good music,
friendly people. It is truly, as the license plate boasts, a
sportsman's paradise, and an unusually tasty cocktail based state
also. There's a lot to like about the state of Louisiana, but, in
the end, it's not quite America.
Exhibit A, from here on out, Louisiana will cover the costs of
gastric-bypass surgery for select state workers. Gastric-bypass, in
case you haven't had it, is a radical and radically expensive
stomach operation popular with overweight weathermen, like NBC's Al
Roker. It is dangerous and not always effective. But when it works,
it's much easier than dieting. And now it's free.
Well, not to be outdone, Mississippi announced today that, from here
on out, the state will cover silicone breast implants for eligible
female students at Ole Miss on -- quote -- "aesthetic grounds."
Hi Debkroll and Wolfie
How are you gals doing? Wolfie you and I had surgery around the same time I
think mine was 8/25/03 and to date I am down to 247 pounds but my friends
tell me they can really see my weight loss when I am wearing my clothes. I
am down 2 bra sizes and about 3 dress sizes. I think I lose more inches
than pounds LOL. I hardly enjoy eating anymore and just do it to live now.
I did eat a small chocolate donut yesterday and was able to keep it down
LOL. I seem to have no problems digesting sugar at all but I usually eat
Splenda instead. I have even eaten a small slice of red velvet cake with
cream cheese frosting and had no dumping issues. To date I have never
dumped but I have thrown up things like chicken and turkey and mozzarella
sticks. I try to chew my food about 50 times before I swallow but it is
hard sometimes especially when you are with friends. I went to a friends
party last Friday and ate some chicken and had to go to the bathroom and do
the bulimic thing to toss my cookies up because that chicken was hurting me
badly. So here I am a fat bulimic lol am I on the supermodel diet or what
LOL. If I had to do it all over again I would just do it the normal way and
force myself to work out and eat better but since that is all water under
the bridge I have to deal with life as it comes. I really miss the comfort
of food it has been a really good friend for so long but I am dealing with
it. I am wearing clothes I have not fit in years and it is all nice but I
would rather eat a nice big Philly cheese steak instead LOL to me that would
be just as nice or better. I really miss eating sandwiches and bread I just
can't eat them anymore. Pouch Pain hurts like heck so I will do anything to
avoid it.

Hello everyone,
Will we ALWAYS have to take our meds ground up? My PCP took me off the diuretic
and potassium pills but I'm still on two other blood pressure medications. I
had my LAP RNY on 9-23-03 so I have to ground up all meds or have them
liquified. I must say these two pills taste awful!! The only thing that
breaks the disgusting taste is grape juice -- everything else is overwhelmed by
the flavor. The problem with the grape juice is that the pills don't mix well
with the juice. No matter what I do the pills lay right on top and I have to
look at the two of them while I try to drink the juice. Does it come to a point
where the pouch is able to take whole pills? I'll be able to continue this if I
know there is a rainbow at the end of this tunnel. Thanks for the help.

hello all,
in my opinion, its 2 in a million that die from complications everyone is
different and everyone's body is different from everyone eles, plus you have
to look at the credibility of the doctors that are performing your surgery,
plus any surgery that they have to put you under, you never know if your going
to wake up, you can go in to have a tooth pulled and die, so please don't let
storys like these scare you from having your surgeries, ask a lot of questions
to your doctor even if you have to ask other doctors in that hospital about
your doctor. hey i had my surgery may 9th 2000 i was over 790 lb when i went in,
i had alot of medical problems, plus being in a wheel chair, on oxygen, on a
c-pap machine for sleeping, and 40 pills a day,a nurse to wipe my butt, and
much more, now IM down to under 300 LB and loving life, moved to Florida last
year, IM now working a full time job, walking everyday, and just have the energy
to do things i thought i never do before. so take this surgery face forward
and if it is right for you then go for it.

Hi everyone,
I have a date of surgery scheduled for 11/12/03. I just had my
psychological exam yesterday and all the information should be going
to my insurance company. Anyone else have Blue Cross Blue Shield? I
have been denied twice by this company, but it was because my
physicians letter (who is a family doctor) was very vague and he did
not include any information on my past dieting/weight loss/gain
history....I went to a Bariatric Clinic in Milwaukee and they seem to
have all their stuff together....so now I just have to wait and see.

Lori,
I don't know if you take it, but for me taking Vitamin E cause me to
bruise at the lightest touch. After surgery I started taking the new
Polymer / Vitamin E from GNC that is supposed to be like 100 time
more bio available than natural and artificial and let me tell you it
was. My husband started acusing me of being with someone else who
was really rough :) He was only kidding of course. Stopped taking
them at the suggestion of my mother (a nurse) and within 2/3 weeks
the bruising cleared up.

I won't die from the WLS surgery, I am going to die waiting for it. Or be broke
from paying for the insurance and not getting it. I tell you what if anyone goes
thru with what I am going thru you are GOOD ! I just called my doctor and they
said they haven't got anything yet from the insurance only a letter this month
stating I don't have insurance. My insurance has been cancel August 31, 2003.
I am on Cobra. I have paid my monthly bills on time. Well I called both Cobra
and Bc/bs. Still they are giving me the run around. I have the insurance. So I
called my surgeon and talked to the billing person there and she heard what
Bc/Bs said on the phone. I HAVE INSURANCE. But the billing person said I have to
have it in written. Come on GIVE ME A BREAK. The insurance person told her all
she had to do was call the provider line and they would tell her over the phone.
NO she wouldn't do it. SAID the surgeon said in WRITTEN. Bc/Bs called them on
the phone right after she talked to us. MAN they make you feel like your lying
to them. I got it off the internet and it told I had active insurance I fax that
to the surgeons office and they still wouldn't take it. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
This really makes me feel really low. Why am I doing this. I can't walk, sleep,
or set very long cause of the pain in my back and legs. I have had all the test
surgerys they wanted me to. I don't want to give
up. The only draw back is the surgeons office. I got it straighten out with the
insurance. Man someone HELP ME! I AM LOSING IT. Sorry for the whinning. Had to

Hi Lori or Robin:
I just read your email about bruising but I didn't read the other email that
pertain to this. My arms are terrible if I just bump them they bruise and I
cannot even itch myself otherwise they bruises badly and the blood immediately
comes to the surface but does not bleed. I've gone to Kaiser for this and they
have run some test to see what I'm lacking if anything within my system. So
far all my labs I've had done are just fine when I check in with my surgeon that
did my bypass.
If one of you could elaborate on this subject you were talking about I sure
would appreciate it, it would be nice to talk to someone else that is going
thru this.
Thanks So Much,

I think he was in his 20's. He swallowed a pill whole and it ripped his
pouch open and then go out into his system. He was 2 weeks out from
surgery. He had to have emergency surgery to correct the problem and then
died yesterday :(
This is why it is sooooooo important to do what the doctor said even tho we
THINK we can do this or that. There is always a reason the dr tells us not
to.
It's so sad.
This was a story about a young man in another support group. I did not know
him but still he was a fellow wls family member. I just would like to reiterate
for all of us, posties and pre-ops, that whatever you do...ALWAYS FOLLOW THE
ORDERS YOUR DOCTOR GIVES YOU. They are the ones that went to school for years
and years to be able to tell us EXACTLY what all we need to do. And we are the
ones that have each other to fall back on to keep us focused and to reenforce
all our info. God Bless Mike's family and God Bless Mike!

I have not mastered not having some water when I eat either. But I only
have just the tiniest sip to wet my mouth. Not really even enough that I
have to swallow it. I talked to my doctor and he said if that is all I am
doing that's ok and that alot of people do that. But not to increase it so
that I am actually drinking fluids while I eat.
Candi
Your right Candi. It is so hard not to at least wet the mouth. I have messed
up though and drank a little to much and then of course it comes back up. I
think water is the thing I miss "gulping". But believe you me...I HAVE LEARNED
TO SIP SIP SIP, LOL. I hate that mess of having to bring it back up and it
happens so fast the water is still cold. That is to wild, lol.

Thank you Lori and Carol for your input. I guess it is like when you

Hopefully with time he will realize what he is doing and come around.
Carol, I am Villazon by birth. Never changed my last name after
marriage. I was born in Cuba, but have been in the US for over 20
years (since 1980). I work for Bunnell, and yes, we do deal with you
guys a lot. Next time give me a call. Maybe I can help you out with
any questions you may have.
I have heard about Dr. Jacobs and he is very highly recommended. My
mother is a GI nurse, and has only good things to say about him.
Unfortunately his prices, as well as the hospital prices for where he
operates were really high. I am very happy with my surgeons, and
would recomend them in a second.
Lori, I know you post often, and just wanted to let you know that
you are an inspiration. Like I said I don't post often, but do read

I would say at seven weeks out you are eating way too much and the wrong
foods. But every doctor is different. If you had my doctor you would only
be eating protein and protein only until you lost 75% of your weight. Did
you take a look at how many carbs are in tomato juice, nuts, ect. Animal
meat, seafood, cheeses, eggs, these foods will keep your pouch full. My
doctor says to eat three meals a day. I think when I was at seven weeks out
3 ounces is what we had for the whole day. Now two years nine months out I
am supposed to have 3 to 5 ounces of protein three times a day. Dark green
veggies then fruit is the best choices for me for my carbs instead of the
white stuff rice, potato, pasta, bread, ect. I think for me anyways this is
the best way to take the weight off and keep it off since this is only a
tool. Best of luck to you. Remember every doctor is different, I do believe
my new way of eating is keeping me healthy.

Ladies,
What you are feeling is absolutely normal. Everyone has the same
feelings and the closer you get to surgery, the worse it gets. I
remember that I sat at my desk for 6 hours the night before surgery
writing individual notes (yes Leah, if it makes you feel better, do it!)
to everyone most important to me. I cried my eyes out and my hubby kept
asking what I was doing but I wanted to get it out done. Afterward, I
sat on the couch watching TV with my dh and I felt so much better. It
was cathartic and I went into surgery with a major positive attitude the
next day. Don't let the stories scare you; remember only about 1% of
people die from this. That's a 99% success rate! Who could beat those
odds?
Good luck tomorrow Kerri; you are in our thoughts and prayers. Welcome

Hi everyone,
My husband's surgery is in 6 days, mine in 28 days. The "what ifs"
are really getting to me. I read the story about the 2 women from
Iowa and the memorial page on another site. We have 4 young
daughters to get healthy for, so I know this surgery is right for
us, I just can't shake this feeling. I think it's normal to feel
this way, but it's so overwhelming that I have trouble sleeping and
I think about it all the time. Husband sleeps like a baby though, he
seems to have no fear, or so I thought. He told me last night to
make sure we have a tape for our camcorder to film him with the
girls in the next few days before surgery, "just in case". I was
speechless. Just the thought of doing that makes me cry. I can't
imagine our lives without him. I've thought about writing letters to
my love ones, just in case. Is that a good idea, or will it will put
me in a negative mind set? I feel like there's so much I want to say
to them but I don't want to scare them either. Girls are 16,15,13 &
12 months. How in the world do I get some peace of mind? I would
welcome ANY advice...Please.

hi sue. can you bring some print-outs from the web, showing
wls diagrams that way she'll know you're researching & informing
yourself?
lori h.
I'm going to approach this from a different standpoint. Let's look at
2 possible issues...
First of all, are you getting in you requirement of protein? At 60
grams, I would guess yes.
2nd question, Is this the best way for you to get your protein? For
example, the 30 grams of protein drink easily pass through your
system, causing you not to be full. Same with the 16 oz of tomato
juice. If 38 grams of protein basically pass through you without any
staying power, you are using the remaining 22 grams to keep yourself
full. Is that a the best choice?
You may want to look at undigested protein sources as an alternative.

I don't really know if you are eating too much. Are you losing weight? Are
you counting your Fat grams?

Hi Bibi!!! I don't know if this posts my last name here, but I am a
Villazon too! I don't know you but I know of you from work, I work
for WCMC and I can't think right now of the company you work for, but
I just called there yesterday regarding NOI on someone (I didn't
speak with you though, spoke with the other contact). I am Villazon
from marriage, but actually, now divorced since February. I've been
with WCMC 9 years so we've probably talked at some point.
Congratulations on your WLS!!! I am preop, waiting right now for the
insurance approval, it was submitted last Friday. Hope to hear
something by next week at least and hoping for surgery 1st or 2nd
week in November. My surgeon is Dr. Eddie Gomez, he's with Dr.
Jacobs who is famous for the banding. I hardly ever post in here
either, but also read the posts every day! By the way there is a
local Miami group too, MiamiWLS, it's small but we're a good bunch!
About your husband, don't worry, he is probably going through a phase
since you've had your surgery. Maybe he see's you eating so
differently and subconsciously eats for you! That sounded silly but
that's the first thing I thought of. Also, maybe it's similar to
when a woman is pregnant, the husband gains sympathy weight also!
He'll probably be just fine, maybe he's adjusting to the surgery in
his own way. Anyway, congratulations, sounds like you are doing
great! Hope to be right behind you! Take care and if you ever call
the clinic ask for me, so I can say hello! Carol :)
Hi All,
I have a question please from a seven week postie. I feel like all I do
is eat all day long. I never get hungry but it just seems like I am
always eating and I feel like I am eating too much. Can somebody take a
look at a typical daily intake for a day and tell me if I am eating too
much. My mind keeps telling me I am and that I need to cut back or I am
not going to lose any more weight but I don't want to cut back too far
and screw things up that way either! HELP!! Any thoughts or suggestions
would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
Yesterdays menu:
(eaten throughout the day)
4 oz vanilla protein drink (30 gms protein)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds (3.5 gms protein)
1/2 package lunchables--just the cheese and crackers (6.5 gms protein)
1 oz brazil nuts--give or take a nut :-) (6 gms protein)
16 oz tomatoe juice (8 gms protein)
1/2 TV dinner--salsbury steak & mashed potatos (6.5 gms protein)
Is this too much??? Am I making the wrong choices????? HELPS!!

Angie,
Every surgeon is different. But I cannot imagine taking that long to eat
a meal. It would be cold before you could finish. My surgeon started me on
two ounces of soft food two days after I l left the hospital. I had liquids the
first two days home. I have never eaten pureed foods. I think I would have
hurled at the sight of it. I ate 2 ounces ( quarter cup) of food. Sometimes I
will go up to three but I try to stay as close as I can to the two no more than
three. I do realize that sometimes I may go over but you have to progress over
a period of time since the pouch is still healing and all the reworkings on
the inside. I ate things like grits, oatmeal,1 scrambled egg, soups, yogurt,
pintos and cheese from taco bell, mashed potatoes, you can add a little cheese
to
your egg also. And remember just because something may make you sick one day
doesnt mean it will always. Fortunately I have not had a whole lot of it at
all. Only if I eat to fast or something just doesnt sit right or maybe a bite or
two to many and it has to come up. It will sit like a brick in your pouch. I
also had my gallbladder removed so alot of things affect me if there is to
much fat or something like that in it. Hope this helps. Email me anytime.

Hi everyone -
Here is my question:
The booklet my surgeon gave me advises to take about 15mins per oz
while eating; since I am 34 dys out from surgery I am in the pureed
food stage and eat 3-4 oz of pureed food 3x/day. So, each meal takes
about 45-1hr to finish. HOWEVER, according to "Pouch Rules for
Dummies" on GastricBypassFamily.com the instructions state to finish
a meal in 5-10 mins, any longer will cause the pouch to fail. I'm
confused: are my directions different bcause I just recently had
surgery or am I getting 2 wildly different perspectives on eating
times? Can you help? Thanks in advance for any input you can give.

Hi everybody,
I don't post often, but I read the digests every day. It is like a
mini version of my favorite TV show. It almost feels like I know
each and everyone of you :)
I had lap RNY on 6/9/3 after battling my insurance for 3 months.
Lost the battle and was self pay. I have lost 65 lbs. so far, and
let me tell you this was the best $ 17,000 I ever spent. My only
regret has been not doing it sooner. I live in Miami, and I know
some of you are local, and I was the first WLS patient done at
Kendall Regional Medical Center. My doctors were great and the
hospital staff was great. Now I mainly use y PCp for follow up
bloodwork and such, but so far there has been little need for me to
see my surgeons.
A while back some of you posted about the changing dynamics of
relationships about WLS. I have been married for 2 years to a
wonderful man, and I have 3 boys (6, 7, 11) from my previous
marriage. My current husband met me when I was about 220 lbs., and
has loved me thru my gains and losses. I was 250 the day of surgery,
and you would have thought I was Cindy Crawford the way he was all
over me. Now that I am feeling better about myself, (great actually
since I just fit into size 11 jeans) it seems he has gained about 20
lbs. since my surgery. He was always kind of husky to begin with,
and it is not his size that bothers me, it is his health. I know
what it feels like to be tired, and out of breath and I hate to see
someone I love suffer thru the same. I don't want to bring it up
cause I don't want to hurt his feelings (afterall he loved me thru
thick and thin). Any ideas on what I can do to help him ?
Thank you all for sharing your lives and struggles, you truly are an

Well, I think I've got some good news about my denial. I called the
Dr.s office today and they said I was denied because of a pre-
existing condition. I quit my (sucky) job on March 28 (had BCBS),
took 5 weeks off and started my new (wonderful) job in May, but my
new insurance (also BCBS) didn't kick in until June 1. What BCBS
doesn't have on record was that I was on hubby's insurance (UHC)
during the intervening time. DH has already called his employer to
get a certificate of coverage, and hopefully we'll have that in the
next day or two.
When I was talking to the Dr.'s office, the nurse seemed to think if
I can get the continuous coverage thingy corrected then I'm good to
go. But the cynic that I am, I called BCBS just to make sure. They
said that yes, it was a pre-exiting condition, and I couldn't have
surgery until January. But they said I was also denied because my bmi
was below 40. I asked if they deny everyone under 40, or do they
recognize 35-39 with comorbidities. She said in the case of 35-39 I
would have to show medical necessity. Then she said they had nothing
on record showing medical necessity (my pcp wrote a letter, it was
supposed to be submitted with the request). Then she said there was
nothing on record showing medical necessity that didn't predate June
1.
I left it at that...so now I'm confused if it's simply a pre-existing
condition, or if I still have to show medical necessity (regardless
of when it started). I'm calling the surgeon's office again tomorrow.
I have completed all my pre-requirements for surgery as of Monday.
And yes, Wolfie, if I have to dig ditches in 100 degree heat, I'm
gonna get down to what my driver's license says I weigh <grin

Hi Leslie,
It's just the opposite for me. I DON'T want my in-laws to know but
my side of the family has been great so far. I know once it gets
close to my actual surgery I will have to let my in-laws know but I
don't want to hear stuff from them so I know what you mean. Here's
what I would do about your family, especially since you're counting
on their support: Have your mother or even both your parents meet
with your doctor. I think if they hear it straight from the doctor
about how important the surgery is to you, that it is done all the
time without any problems, etc. that they will be able to handle
this. The biggest problem with our families and friends is that
they just don't understand what its like for us to be this way and
they don't understand what the surgery is really about. They hear
something in the news and make up their minds about things without
knowing the real facts. Talk to your doctor and see if your folks
can go with you to meet him or her sometime.

I just realized today that I am 10 days late. Now I know I am not pregnant.
I had a tubal ligation 16 years ago. I am going to see my PCM tomorrow and
I will ask him about it then but I wondered if anyone has experienced cycle
changes?
I have always been 28-30 days.
Candi
Well what was weird is i didnt have a normal cycle until after the surgery
four months prior. All I can contribute it to was being a bundle of nerves four
months before surgery. Either that or i am going to be changing into
something. lol.

Kris it's really individual. My husband stayed home with me for 3 weeks.
Of course that is definitely on the long side of things and since my husband
is in the military and he had like 90 days of leave saved up anyway it was
no biggie for him. He would have gone back sooner if I had not gone back in
the hospital with an infection.
But if it were me I would want someone there at least a week if you could
find a way to do it.
Candi
Beth you need to call your doctor. That is not normal. The same thing
happened to me. I thought I was a big baby and the surgery was just worse
for me somehow. Turned out I had an infection and ended up back in the
hospital. Call your doc today.
But as to the Protein I believe the number is 55-60 grams per day. But even
if you are not meeting that you should not be that weak at 5 weeks.

know I did have the Open RNY---it was a revision from the VBG to the RNY.
Well---it was 5 weeks ago & I just feel really weak & sicky to my stomach. I
don't know if not getting enough protein would make me feel this away---I really
don't know how many grams of protein I should have. Those of who who are eating
food--besides doing the shakes for protein--Will U please give me a sample as to
what You eat in a day's time?? Is there possibly any type of protein pill out
there?? Now I'm talking about real food--LOL!! Not liquid or purreed. I feel
awwwfulll-I Neeeed to exercise but I don't even hardly have enuff energy to lift
my hand--I'm MAKEING myself type right now . I'm not meaning to sound like

Hi Maria!
Keep in mind that we are all different, and losing will vary
from person to person and with a variety of factors. :)
For me personally...I exercise on my treadmill or gazelle
EVERYDAY for only 20 minutes so far. I believe that it really
helps me. I go thru spurts with food...for a few days all I
will want to eat is Wendy's Chili, then other days all I want is
cheese or yogurt, I usually crave something and stick with it
for several days until I get tired of it. For breakfast
generally I eat 1 string cheese OR 2 tbsp. of KASHI cereal with
soy milk. I love Zatarains red beans and rice, I like soups, I
like chicken breast with salad, fish. I don't eat pasta or
bread at all. Now, keep in mind I only eat about 3 spoonfulls
of food at a time. (my pouch is only 1 ounce) My personal
opinion (since you asked for it) is DON'T eat pasta or
potatoes...find something that you like that isn't
startchy/carby. (is that a word? lol...it is now!) I am
feeling great about life now...just hang in there Maria...soon
you'll be feeling it too!
Hugs to you!

This is how I remember doing it also. I was so drugged up I
remember thinking "they expect me to stand on this little
platform and drink that????" It was the nastiest stuff and I
swayed back and forth the whole time from being so groggy.
LOL...what a experience! :)

~*~The Best Thing A Father Can Do For His Children Is To Love Their Mother~*~
Hi I post every now and again...
I have not told my parents or in-laws about the wls. I am still in
the waiting period of hearing from the Ins co and getting a wls date.
I will tell them once I know for sure that I am going to have it
done and have a deffinate date. For you see, If I told my parents now
(specially my mom) they would look at me like I was crazy and get a
very long negative lecture that I am not ready to here right now.
But I know....sooner or later Im gonna have to tell them b/c they
are the only ones that will be able to watch my kids when I go in
the hospital. My hubby works plus go to school but has enough
vacation time to take off for that week. I hate asking my mom for
help(she and I have never gotten along very well). She is more
helpful and appreciative towards my brothers(29,20)than me.
So I dont know how to tell her or going abouts telling my
parents...In laws will be a whole lot easier....
So any suggestion on how to tell them?????
Thanks so much for listing

I have to ask what happened...i missed the main story
Deb was telling the group, of two patients who died in Iowa from the surgery,
but nothing is yet known if there were contributing factors pre-op with their
health that may or may not have been a problem with it all.

What vitamins are everybody taking after surgery that you are able to
swallow and keep down? Does anybody have any advice as to how to
prevent hair loss?
Thanks
i was pretty bleeped up for 1st week out. minimum, i'd say 5 days.
that's when i felt human again. my dogs knew instinctively that momma
was messed up & were extra gentle.

hi stacy. have you tried asbs.org? they're excellent, you can even
email 'em questions or concerns.
may i ask how old your son is? i placed all my trust in the Lord.
plus, i heard that the drive to the hospital is more dangerous than
surg, esp driving in miami:-)

hi candi. before wls, my cycles were about 29, sometimes more, days
apart. now they're precisely 27 days apart. surg does affect hormone
levels, trust me.

Dear Stacey:
There is a risk at anything you do. There is a risk to every medical
procedure. But the risk is very small and the benefits of this surgery far out
weight the risk. The surgery has saved my life. I was a bigger risk for this
surgery because of my age and medical condition. I am 59 years old and weighed
almost 400 lb., I am in a wheelchair, I have heart problems, an aortic aneurysm,
arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic bronical asthma, very bad spinal stenosis
and spinal deterioration, and I WAS a diabetic, and I HAD High blood pressure
that was going to cause the aneurysm to rupture. I know longer have diabetes
or high blood pressure. I am even able to get around some in the house now
without my wheelchair. I was doomed without the surgery and now I have hope for
a better life and more time with my family. I made the choice to take the
chance and I went through it all with no problems. I have not been sick at all.
Even though I weighed almost 400# I was still able to have a LAP. I was only
in the hospital 2 days and as of this day I have lost 91 pounds.

can die from it. i have tried to get him to understand but he still says he
don't know someone would have it if they might die from it.I know obesity.com
and gastricbypass.com is good but is there where else.
i have been fighting with my ins company for over two yrs now they are willing
to pay he is saying stuff like will now you can die if you have it.i have giving
him stuff to read about this surgery but until today he understand it is a good
way for some people to get healthy and change their life's . I have sat them
both down and talked and answer what I could and if i couldn't i looked it up

I have two quick questions how many days will my partner
need to take off to take care of me? Im hoping the have
the survey on Thursday, Jan 8th. I would go home Friday if
everything goes okay. If she takes off Thurs and Friday
and the weekend, will that be enough so she can return to
work on Monday? Will I be pretty self-sufficient by
Monday? Shes a Physical Therapist so I tend to lean on
her medical assistance a lot when Im sick but I dont want
her to have to take more vacation time just to help me get
back and forth from the bathroom. We have a multi-level
condo so theres stairs everywhere but the banisters are
sturdy and she could maybe bring home a walker from the
hospital she works in, or a cane, if they have those kinds
of things to loan out??
Also, we have 3 cats and they love to jump on our bellies.
Do you know if there is any kind of equipment out there
that is meant to protect against that kind of thing?? Im
imagining a breakfast-t
