Well all, I am home from my surgery, today. I'm hurting an awful
lot and can't find a comfortable position to rest. The trip home
took soo long with all the stops to pee and walk around to keep the
blood clots away. Hope I feel better in a day or two. More later.

Re: This is the hardest part - getting approved

2007-11-30 00:33:20

I wasn't saying I was giving up. I am gonna give it a week before I
call to see if they got my paperwork. That's all. Surprisingly I
have been very patient about this whole process. If I get denied or
asked for more from insurance I will provide it. I was just
surprised that they are sending it in for pre-approval right now
before I meet my Dr, before I give them my personal letter and
before I have gotten my tests results back. They are in I just
haven't gotten the results, I will get those on the 29th when I have
my physical.

later? Could your husband be there via cell phone? Just some

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] question about meal replacement drinks

2007-11-27 22:40:45

astrid,
i'm pre-op too - my surgery is monday you should get a packet from your dr
with some info on it but i've learned that groups like this help with ideas
for things that may taste better than others. i just got my packet and it
says ....PRO COMPLEX, OPTIMA WHEY PROTEIN, DESIGNER PROTEIN, LIQUID AMINO
2222, LIQUID PROTEINEX.
here is the grocery list they provided for me...
sugar free popsickles - fruit or fudge flavor
decaf tea & coffee (nutisweet allowed)
crystal light or sugar free coolaid
clear juice with no sugar - avoid citrus and apple
clear broth or boullion
no sugar added protein drink
skim milk - no greater than 1%
non-fat pudding, natural applesauce, V8
cream of wheat, mashed potator (flakes)
yogurt - low fat/sugar
high protein soft food - eggs & lowfat cheese
this is the beginning and it works up through stages and the food is added
and seems more "normal" or what we are used to now just in very small
quantities.

EVERYTHING IS A GO. 1 BIG PROBLEM

2007-11-27 13:09:46

The doctor just called. Everything is to go. But I have to see the doctor one
more time. Which is no problem right wrongggggg. My husband took off so many
days to be with me on surgerys. He works 6 days on 24 hour call and 2 days off.
The doctors want to see my hubby and me. Only on Monday or Tuesday. The only
Tuesday my hubby has off is the day we go to California. We were trying to get
the surgery on his vacation and there wasn't a day for that. Now they want my
support person with me for the last visit. I don't know what to do.
HELP!!!!!!!!!! I need this surgery so I can walk.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] This is the hardest part - getting approved

2007-11-27 11:34:20

me again,
i have my surgery monday so i can't speak from experience but if i had any
advice to give pre-ops is to have your dr fax (or you pick up) the papers
they sent the insurance because after i looked at what they sent i would
have denied myself too -- bottom line is my motto - keep it simple stupid --
the info and presentation of what they sent was horrible so i decided it can
t hurt so i "organized" the info they sent and had a year print out from
walgreens on for the meds (it was a lot of paper - 52 pgs when i finished) i
also combined my medical problem with its matching ICD-9 codes and the
medication i take for that and i wrote a personal letter stating how poor my
quality of life is and my next step is to have surgical procedures and
injection and get home health equipment and a wheel chair - then i begged
them and basically said i want to be able to be a wife, mother to my 2
babies and practice my profession and not have to go on disability - i also
scanned and 8X10 family photo and 3 days later had an approval -- i think
the picture is an eye catcher and anytime you can do that its a good thing
and call as often as you can - i always heard that if your file is at the
bottom of the stack and you keep calling it will keep it at the top of the
stack (LOL) whatever works.....so request to see what your dr sent the
insurance company and see what they sent - mine was BAD and luckily i was
able to correct it and get myself approved.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] LOW THYROID

2007-11-27 08:53:04

hi, i'm hypothyroid from way back b4 the birth of my 1st baby - she is
almost 4 now and that was why i had trouble getting pg and after 8 months
and 100 lbs later they finally listened to me and decided to see if there
was a problem and the phone call i got was "well, no wonder you're gaining
weight, your thyroid isn't working" -- i almost changed dr's over that but
when they put me on the medication (synthroid) i lost 35 lbs like nothing
BUT then i got pg - i can't help but wnder if i would have reverted back to
my reg size b4 the thyroid problem but thats water under the bridge -- in
your case i would pull your old labs and have them faxed to the weight loss
ppl to explain its low b/c of the lower dose med and fight for a surgery
date.
speaking of thyroid - during the birth of my last baby who is 7 months old -
i had a c-section and my HR went to 140 and BP went way high and they kept
asking if i felt alright and could i feel like my heart was beating out of
my chest and i said no - now i'm a RN and i never had a clue what was going
on - basically from stress - any stress - one of which is surgery and
childbirth to name a couple your thyroid can go crazy -- i had a normal
level going in and had thyrotoxicosis -- do a search on it and see - they
treated me correctly now that i know what i had - they stopped the synthroid
and started giving me heart medication for irregular high heart rate and BP.
...the next step if this isn't caught is thyroid storm and can be fatal ---
its a shame to say but we have to be somewhat aware of possible
complications and have a family member know what to look for b/c things are
sometimes missed --
i wouldn't think they would postpone surgery for that but i guess every doc
is different. so i don't know if i helped with the question but i hope i
gave you some valuable information.

LOW THYROID

2007-11-25 22:22:53

Has anyone been denied surgery due to low thyroid..I was told I could
have surgery in two to three weeks but then the doctor looked at my
blood tests and saw the thyroid results were low...he said he won't
do it until that improves..I'm so upset because I now have to wait
until October 15 to be retested and if it's okay, then I might be
able to get surgery in early November .. however, if it still comes
back as being low, I will probably go into next year and who knows
what insurance will do in 2004...with my luck, they will probably
stop paying for this type of surgery...I am so upset about my thyroid
not working properly...My PCP back in July lowered my medication and
then I had the bloodwork done in August and it's too low...if only
she hadn't lowered my medication, maybe it would be okay now...I just
don't know..Has anyone else had this problem?

different amounts of food. But I want to know that I'm eating the amount I

I have seen alot on here about a bottom buddy. For those of you that cannot
afford $30 - 40 on such an apparatus simply go to Dollar General Store and by
a sponge pom-pom type dish mop for a dollar. They are very easy to wash out.
I used a 32 oz. plastic cup container and simply filled it with water and
sloshed it up and down a few times and it was clean.

This is the hardest part.

2007-11-24 01:09:49

I called yesterday from the person who I had my consult with and
asked if I wanted to go ahead and submit my paperwork to my
insurance company for pre-approval. I said go for it and she said
it should take about a month. I know it could be less then a month
but I won't start to fret about it till October 17th. LOL I am
trying to wait a week before I call my insurance to see if they got
my paperwork. I want to call today, I know it's too early but I
WANNA KNOW!! LOL It's so hard to not think about it. I am trying
to stay busy but it's always on the back of my mind. I haven't even
met the Dr to see if he will actually do my surgery. LOL I will
have a approval or denial by that point. I was told yesterday
though that people with a BMI as high as mine have yet to be denied
through my insurance. I didn't give her my personal letter yet. I
have it written. I wnated to add whatever else was found out at my
PCP appointment on September 30th but I'd go ahead and give it to
her if she asked. It's a good letter.
Thanks all for your support. I just can't tell you how much you all
have been so helpful to me in making my decision. Also some great
tips on food and things like that.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] about vitamins?????

2007-11-23 11:26:30

Here's something I found on the web.
VITAMINS AND SUPPLEMENTS
The following vitamin/mineral supplements will be required for the rest of
your life.
Multivitamin - Take 2 children's chewable multivitamins per day for the
double the recommended DRI for the first six months. A Centrum A to Z once
per day after six months is fine. Recommended Brands: Chewable Centrum
Kids Complete (contains vitamin K, which is important for blood clotting and
bones), One Source Active Kids (Wal-Mart brand)
Calcium - Take 1,500 mg daily. You can go up to 2,000 mg without danger of
toxicity. There are two types of calcium:
1. Citrate is recommended because of its high absorption rate. Citrate
also decreases the risk of kidney stones. It may be taken with or without a
meal. Brands: Citracal, liquid Cal/Mag, NOW powder (1 teaspoon = 700 mg).
Go to www.vitaglo.com.
2. Carbonate is not as well absorbed as citrate and must be taken with a
meal since it needs stomach acid to aid with absorption and gastric bypass
patients produce less stomach acid. Brands: Caltrate, Viactiv
The body only absorbs 500 - 600 mg of calcium every 4 hours, so you must
take your calcium three times a day. Take calcium by itself as it can
decrease the absorption of iron.
B12 - B12 sublingually once per week. Sublingually means under the tongue
so it may be absorbed through the mucus membranes.
Menstruating Women Only
Iron 325 mg ferrous fumerate, gluconate, polysaccharide, or carbonyl (65 mg
of elemental iron) - Take iron with a vitamin C source such as diluted
orange juice (˝ juice to ˝ water), V-8 juice, or Sugar-free Tang to increase
absorption. Do not take iron with calcium supplements, coffee, tea, high
fiber foods, or milk since they decreased iron absorption. Wait at least 3
hours to drink coffee or tea after taking iron.
Vitamin Schedule Example:
Breakfast - 1 multivitamin with meal. Take iron supplement 30 minutes after
meal.
Midmorning - Calcium Citrate (500 - 600mg) and protein supplement
Late afternoon - Calcium Citrate (500 - 600mg) and protein supplement
Supper - 2nd multivitamin with meal
Bedtime - Calcium citrate (500-600 mg)
B12 once a week
Do what works for your schedule and you will remember.
DO NOT use time released or enteric-coated vitamins.

Where did you have the surgery and what type? Do you know of any

Your body has been through some tremendous changes in the past 3
months. The weakness could just be from all the adjustments you are
making. Are you trying to get out and walk daily? Are you getting
enough water and protein? What types of things are you eating? Are
there certain types of food that leave you feeling more nauseous than

You are right that you need to be careful how to take vitamins. I
just take one multi-vitamin right now but I know that some vitamins
interfere with the absorption of others. Also calcium affect the
absorption of some vitamins but I don't remember if it helps or
hinders. I would definately call either your doctor or your

hey guys. the people from detour, one way & u-turn bars replied to my
? about getting them in a smaller size.
the one way (peanut buttery) bars are terrific & the u-turn (caramel)
isn't far behind. the detour bar is decent, but Snickers it
ain't---can't fool this chick!
anyway, their reply was :
"we sell our smaller bars to our mass accounts only. these include
targets, rite-aids, walmarts, walgreens, CVS, trader joes, duane
reeds, & albertsons. the other stores such as GNC, vitamin world,
vitamin shoppe will have the larger bars".
just for our info, keeping a prot bar (whichever brand you like) with
you is excellent is case you're stuck someplace(airport, school) &
could be tempted by other stuff. this was a tip from a nutritionist &
there's always a bar in my purse, sometimes untouched for days, but

I rarely post, but have a few times in the past. I have gotten so
much information from this group and anytime anyone asks about
surgery I send them to Gastric Bypass Family :) And anytime I have a
question I know where to go also :)
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that I found out yesterday
that I got my insurance approval. I had no problem with Cigna POS
what so ever. I got my answer in about 3 weeks. I'm very excited.
I'm waiting on the results of my sleep study because if I have to go
on a CPAP machine it will affect my surgery date a bit. I'm hoping
to have a date soon tho!

Diet and Exercise for Osteoporosis - Miacalcin® Nasal Spray - is this the calcium we need?

Patients sometimes overlook the positive (and negative) effect that diet
and exercise may have on an osteoporosis treatment plan. Useful and valuable
information can help a person get the most from their plan.
Can Diet Help Bone Health?
Calcium is a big contributor to many of the body's processesbuilding bones,
blood clotting, muscle contraction, enzyme activity, and nerve
functionsworking together to sustain life. But its biggest role is building
bone and reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
The following table shows current calcium recommendations by the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) for all ages.
Optimal Calcium Intake
Age/GenderNIH Recommendation
Females, 25-49 y1000 mg
Females, pregnant/nursing1200-1500 mg
Females, postmenopausal, 50-64 y
On estrogen replacement therapy
Not on estrogen replacement therapy
1000 mg
1500 mg
Males, 25-64 y1000 mg
Males/females, 65+ y1500 mg
In spite of its importance, many adults have a hard time getting enough
calcium in their diet (about 1200 mg/day).
The following table offers a list of calcium-rich foods and their calcium
content.
Calcium Content of Common Foods
Milk (whole, skim, buttermilk), 1 cup291-316 mg
Yogurt, plain, 1 cup274-415 mg
Sardines with bones, 3 oz371 mg
Tofu (processed with calcium salts)225 mg
Salmon with bones, 3 oz167 mg
Processed cheese, 1 oz159-219 mg
Collard greens (cooked), 1 cup148-357 mg
Kale (cooked), 1 cup94-179 mg
Broccoli (cooked), 1 cup94-135 mg
Almonds, 1 ounce75 mg
Foods to Avoid
Certain foods may decrease the amount of calcium in the body and should be
avoided. They include: Carbonated cola drinks
Legumes and wheat bran (large amounts)
High-fat foods and foods high in saturated fats
Large amounts of chocolate
Excessive caffeine
Can Exercise Affect Bone Health?
It's no secret that exercise is good for the heart and lungs and helps to
maintain an ideal weight. But a consistent exercise program may also delay
or prevent bone loss. The good news is that patients have many options to
choose from when it comes to exercise. Weight-bearing exercise works the
muscles, bones, and tendons, making them stronger. And listening to music or
chatting with an exercise buddy can be distracting and help the time pass
more quickly! Exercise performed while standingwalking, jogging, aerobic
dance, tennis, and other court sportsappears to have the most beneficial
effect.
The real value of exercise, if a person is at risk for osteoporosis, may not
be its potential to prevent bone loss, but the opportunity to strengthen
muscles and improve coordination. This could help prevent falls or other
accidents that could result in broken bones. If a person has been inactive
for an extended period, it's a good idea to discuss any plans with a doctor
before starting an exercise regimen. If a person has difficulty performing
any activities, there may be other structured or supervised programs a
doctor can recommend to reduce the risk of fractures.

Water Question

2007-11-16 08:21:31

I'm two days from being 9 months out. I will be honest here. I've never
gotten in 64 oz of water in a 24 hour period. I do drink about 24-32 oz I
guess.
What I was wondering is I cannot drink very much at one time. I take three
or four sips and that is all I can handle. If I drink more than that, my
pouch feels very full. Is this normal? Should I be able to drink more at one
time now??

Hey guys & gals,
Can we PLEASE make an effort to delete the digests from under our responses
PRIOR to sending our responses back to the list? I get my mail in digest
form, which is usually 25 messages per e-mail, but if one person leaves the
digest below their message and then someone else replies to that original
message without deleting it (the original post), that's an additional FIFTY
e-mails I have to scroll through prior to getting to a current e-mail.
Sorry if I'm being pissy about this, but this is a particular pet peeve of
mine and it's been happening frequently in the past few days...
Thanks for making the effort.

If you like the chocolate (my personal favorite) you should also try the
banana dream and the cocoa-mocachino... both are wonderful also. It's nice
having variety because I plan on doing these shakes (in addition to my food)
for a long time to come...
As for the calcium, if you can stand the flavors, Vitamin Shoppe has 500 mg.

Things here are going well! The last week was spent losing nothing
but it looks like the scale MAY be moving again :) As of this
morning, I am down 86 lbs :) (in 4 1/2 months)
Alan and I got our home equity loan today and so we will be able to
pay off his mom's house in PA and pay for the restoration of the
house now :) We're being told that it will take about 4 to 6 months
to restore the house. It is such a great feeling to know that this
is really happening!
And Deb, Lisa, and everyone else in the PA, NJ area, yes, let's
DEFINATELY plan on a get-together when I get out there! I so want to

Tiff,
I hope you find a buddy in your area. Keep up with your Dr.'s. Depression can
be treated, you just need to find the right meds and therapist. My daughter
fought with depression this last year, she was nearly pychotic. We finally
brought her home from school, found a local dr who finally came up with the
right diagnosis and medication. Turned out she needed to be treated with an
anti-seizure med and not the anti-psychotic they put her on at the school
clinic. Anyway, don't give up and try to get the medical help you need. My
thoughts are with you. Let us know how you are doing.

My Three Month Post-Op Update

2007-11-11 00:12:22

Well, drum roll, please ...
I'm below the 2's!!! Weighed in at 198 lbs. I was pretty psyched! :-)
Bad news ... I may have developed a stricture. I've been having trouble with a
"drowning" feeling like stuff is stuck in places it shouldn't be and I've
noticed I have to wait alot longer after meals to drink and feel comfortable.
So my surgeon is going to schedule an EGD for this week or early next week to
check things out. I'll keep everyone posted.
My iron count was low so I've been put on a separate iron supplement aside from
what's in my multi-vitamin.
So there's the update.

Anyone in San Diego, CA area???

2007-11-10 19:24:49

Hi, I was wondering if there was anyone here who lives in the San
Diego area. I need some more support, friends, and possibly, an
exercise buddy.
I'm 23, in San Diego. I've been doing great! I'm now down to 219
lbs. I just need to find other ways to deal with my depression and
boredom. I've had quite a few slips and cheated in the past. I
regret that so much too, because all it does, is make me sick, and
even more depressed.
I find it really difficult to find things to do, and change my
lifestyle. It's hard for me to find work, or get into school. I
just have a lot of issues in life to deal with. I don't know what to
do. I do see a psychologist, and is looking for a psychiatrist. I
just need a lot of help mentally, as well as physically.

2007-11-10 03:40:30

I am very excited. I was told that because my BMI was higher then
40 that I would more than likely be approved by BC/BS of AL. She
said the have not yet not approved anyone with a BMI as high as I
have. She will send my paperwork in this week and told me to give
it a month. I will call next week to see if they got my paperwork.
I have a 6 month period in which to have my surgery with that
apporval and she said my Dr is at a 5 month waiting period so I
might just squeak in under my approval date. LOL I feel very good
about this and can't wait to see if I get approved. If I don't I
will wait till I have my physical and othe rinfo in and try again.
Doesn't hurt to try without it.

Re: sugar question

2007-11-08 00:40:06

I think everyone is probably different, but for me, I can have
staight OJ and not dump. I have kept the sugar number to the single
digits on most other things. My yogurt has 10 grams of sugar and I
am fine with that also. It also has alot of protein, 9 grms. So
maybe the protein helps me handle the sugar. I have tried the propel
and have been fine. Just my experiences with sugar. I will tell you
one thing, when i went back to work, i took a stick of gum out of my
desk. It was there from last school year. I didnt have it in my
mouth for more than a couple seconds and my stomach started cramping
up. I spit it out and took the pack out of the desk.. it wasnt sugar
free!!! I threw it all out, but was shocked at how quickly i felt
ill and it was just a piece of gum...lol Hope you find your happy
medium also.

My consult went well. I met with the team. The doctor will hit 2000
surgeries by the end of the year. He does all his surgeries lap. His
surgery rate is unreal. I like him a lot and I like the personal
follow-up he and his team do. They require checkups at 3 weeks, 3/6/9
months and 1 year and then yearly after that. He performs surgeries on
Tues/Thursdays. Right now my psych evaluation will be in December
(first appointment). I should hopefully hear from my insurance company
in 2-3 weeks. He told me to start bugging them if I haven't heard
anything in 10 days. Right now if things stay on schedule I'll be
having my surgery sometime next summer which gives me plenty of time to
start my exercise program and increase my protein/decrease my carb
intake. I am so psyched. I can't wait.

That's awesome news! I found out this weekend that I no longer have a single,
solitary pair of pants that fits me anymore. Every last pair is too big. Think
I'm complaining ... heck no!!!
This afternoon I have my three month post-op visit. I'll post an update this
afternoon. :-)
Way to go, my surgery twin! Keep up the great work.

I didn't know you're in TX! I'm in Dallas! I just passed through

Crushing pills

2007-11-05 07:42:26

If you're still able to swallow pills, use a pill splitter. It costs
about $1.50 at the pharmacy and neatly splits the pills down to
manageable size without crushing them and wasting any medication.

New Clothes

2007-11-05 07:26:34

Hey guys and gals,
Just had to tell you another little something. I was unpacking
(we're still living out of boxes after 3 weeks!) some clothes to put
away and came across a pair of shorts that I haven't worn since
1999. Decided to try them on to see how much further I needed to
go....well guess what! They fit! I didn't even have to lay down on
the bed to get them zipped. I'm so happy. This of course led to a
clothes trying on spree (I'm a pack rat and have kept all the
clothes --almost all--that i've worn for the last 10 years or so)
and clothes that I haven't worn in about 3-4 years actually fit.
I've got more stuff to wear! I'm excited!
Sorry for the excitment but I just had to share!

MWILLEY, DON'T GET FRUSTRATED!!! YOU ARE DOING GREAT SO STOP COMPARING YOUR
WEIGHT LOSS TO OTHERS. EVERYONE'S BODY IS DIFFERENT AND SOME LOOSE REALLY,
REALLY FAST AND REACH THEIR GOAL IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS,WHILE OTHERS KEEP LOOSING
FOR 18 MONTHS, JUST SLOWER.IN THE END, EVERYTHING WORKS OUT. SO KEEP YOUR HEAD
UP AND I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD! YOU INSPIRE ME.

wolfie, glad to see you back - i've been off and on with stuff going on
here and i'm just really getting back full force and will contimue
throughout the post-op period -- dr didn't say how long i will be laid up...
.
i know what you mean about the meds - i know time - released is not supposed
to be crushed - i take demerol for back pain and will have to lose quite a
bit b4 that goes away so i'm going to try to get my dr to give me the
duragesic patch or kadian capsules b/c they can be opened and sprinkled in
custard or something soft.
i was so embarrassed today at pre-op --- had to give a urine sample and
couldn't get that little cup in the right place - couldn't see and peed
everywhere but the bottle - finally got a few drops and its solid red b/c
the big P is here -- oh joy ! they sent me home with a cup to do a pg test
but i can get hubby to hold the cup then.
how are you? i forgot where we left off before i had that nightmare
experience with wellbutrin....

Centrum makes a chewable that is just as complete as the regular

am sure more expensive.

Dear Lisa,
If Dr. Kowalski is about 5'5" with brown hair, nice eyes and not too hard on
the eyes, he is the one who trained with Dr. Brolin. He was a "fellow" with
Dr. Brolin when I first had my surgery and he's the one who removed my
staples and did some of my follow-up. He's a doll. (Now my bias comes
out... so watch out... hahahaha). Much as I like Dr. Kowalski, why go to
the student, when you can have the master? Dr. Brolin is not as cute as
Kowalski (not that this matters, I'm just being funny here), but he's an
absolutely brilliant surgeon. Let me know if you're gonna come this way,
and the day of your appointment, I'll drive over and meet you for lunch or
something...
live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt...

Drinking the water while eating makes the food pass through your
pouch faster. This makes you feel hungry sooner and you are apt to
eat more or snack.

Red Bull

2007-11-03 05:08:01

Yes Red Bull has alot of caffeine in it but its not really
carbonated. I have been drinking caffeine and was never told to not.
This drink is like an instant energy drink and it is great for me. I
drink the sugar free one which only has 10 calories

If you know this person and they have asked for an opinion, I see
nothing wrong with offering your persuasive opinion. If he's not
asking for advice, I would leave it alone. Just me though.

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE DON'T give up your support group or this message board. I
agree with you that it seems almost too easy for some of the people
on this board to lose weight after surgery but you should be proud
of yourself that you've lost 63 pounds. That's a great start. It
sounds like now is the sink or swim time so if you can swim at least
try treading the water. Call your doctor's office and tell them
what your going through - ask for an appointment. It's worth the
trouble to get yourself back on track. I'm sure your doctor has
seen this many times before and should be able to help. You might
want to ask about a different support group if your not happy with
the one your going to but don't cut yourself off from other people.
We all need each other when going through this. Keep us posted and
hang in there!!!

NO, DON'T BUTT OUT. YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST ON THIS GROUP TO TALK TO ABOUT
THIS SURGERY AND YOU ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH, EVEN IF IT'S SCARY. I KNOW IF YOU
ARE TALKING TO SOMEONE ABOUT SURGERY YOU ARE STILL TELLING THEM THE GOOD AND THE
BAD AND THEY KNOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN. IN THE LONG RUN IT IS ALWAYS THE PERSONS
DECISION ANYWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT WE SAY. GIVE THIS PERSON ALL THE INFO YOU HAVE
AND JUST BE THERE FOR HIM, YOU ARE A GREAT FRIEND :)

Hey Pam,
East Jeff is only a mile or so from my Mom's house.
Congrats on your surgery. Be very patient with yourself and don't push
it. Drink slowly, a little at a time. I know the protein drinks get
old fast, but they help tremendously.
Did you meet Dr. Joe Uddo at East Jefferson Hosp? His family are
friends of my family.
I had my surgery at St. Charles General in New Orleans. I hated my
first four weeks postop, but it got much better after that. If I would
just remember to go slow I'd be much better off.
If I can help, just let me know.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have the fears I am having and I haven't even had the surgery yet. When I
was in a weight group someone read in a paper that your body has to caught up
with your weight lose to lose more weight. I think you did great for what you
lost. I have been trying to lose on my own again since May and I am down 25 lbs.
So you see your doing better than I am. My surgery is November 12, 2003. Just
think what you went thru trying to lose the way on your own. Was a struggle let
me tell you. I am trying to stay on the protein diet so I can be ready for the
surgery. I know it's hard. You can do it use this web site as a tool too. At
least you can come on here and talk to ppl that are having the same problems you
are. Everyone treats you like family on here. If they were giving out prizes
everyone in here should get one.
You can do it just stay with it and the ppl on here.

I haven't been around for awhile but, I need some advice and I know
this would be the best place to get it. I am getting VERY disgusted
and down hearted and need some advice to pick me up again. I had my
open RNY on 2/26/03 and have struggled to date to lose 63 pounds. I
really thought when I had this surgery all my years of hard core
dieting would be over but, I am finding this to be wrong. I started
out at 276 lbs and now am 213. Don't get me wrong, I am ever so
thankful for what I have lost because I feel GREAT but, one of the
reasons I stopped coming in this forum and am about to stop going to
my local support meetings is disappointment in myself due to hearing
others with less time out having lost way more weight than I. I
belive I am doing everything correct-you guys tell me: I am eating
<1000 calories a day, 75-100 gms of protein, <25 fat gms, 40-70
carbs,96 ozs or more water, NO sugar, LOW sodium, I work out @ Curves
everyday @ lunch, and walk no less than 1 mile or ride a bike for 1-2
miles in the evening.I have bounced around with eating 3 regular
meals to 6 tiny meals about 3 hours apart-switching back and forth
trying to break plateaus. Believe me, I have STRUGGLED to lose what I
have lost so far and I do NOT consider it to have been easy. Now, I
am starting to feel hungry now and again-the first time since the
surgery. I did go thru a bought of vomiting every time I had a bowel
movement and am wondering if I have done some damage internally. Does
anyone have some suggestions? I am about at my wits end with this!
ANY help will be appreciated!!
